Treatment Philosophy

Welcome! I’m so glad you took out time from your busy day to think about embarking on the exciting journey of more fully understanding yourself and your relationships. I congratulate you! I want to assure you that you have found a caring, compassionate, and experienced therapist who is honored to be with your every step (even baby steps!) of the way.

I am a clinical psychologist with years of expertise in adult and couples psychotherapy. Troubling moods, behaviors and relationships are often associated with painful feelings and self-criticism. I aim to work with you to identify inner, often perplexing barriers to having the freedom to more fully love, work and play in the ways you desire. I specialize in working with deeply ingrained patterns that continue despite your best efforts. Inner conflicts and feeling undeserving of good feelings and experiences are often outside of immediate awareness. I work in a relational manner to help you notice self-defeating tendencies so you can access your personal strengths and feel free to act in your own best interest and in accord with your values.

For the first half of my own life, I worked as a gynecologist helping women with female problems such as infertility, pelvic pain, and female cancers. Practicing medicine for two decades was rewarding and worthwhile, but I felt pulled to the profession of clinical psychologist where I could spend quality time with my clients unencumbered by the dictates of managed care and could create an environment where I would have the freedom to be able to build strong, meaningful, and nurturing relationships with the women I care for. This is my goal.

I have several areas of special focus:

  • My favorite part of clinical practice is helping adult females of all ages to develop a healthy balance of self-sufficiency and interrelatedness that will catapult you towards a more fulfilling life.

  • Providing pre-marital counseling and couples’ therapy. I am trained in the Emotion-Focused Therapy model, based in attachment theory, which focuses on the emotions in relationships which create, heal and sustain love.

  • Healing women with a history of trauma. I have years of experience helping women with significant distress after difficult experiences, such as ending of an important relationship. I also work with women with post-traumatic stress disorder due to experiences such as childhood neglect or past or current sexual mistreatment.

  • Caring for the psychological well-being of women with medical concerns such as infertility, problem pregnancies and pregnancy loss, endometriosis, pelvic pain, and female cancers. I also work well with women with general medical issues such as fatigue, insomnia, chronic pain, diabetes, overweight, and heart disease.

  • Keeping women psychologically strong as they get older. I really enjoy caring for older women and helping them to navigate life’s difficult transitions. Because of my background in medicine, I understand that working towards a strong, healthy body goes hand- in- hand with your goal of achieving mental well-being.
